Our Mission & History
The ePlane Company, incubated at IIT Madras, aims to revolutionize urban mobility with its all-electric, zero-emission air taxi, designed as one of the most compact eVTOL aircraft. This solution targets mid-mile urban air mobility, addressing congestion and pollution in cities, with potential across the $1+ trillion global UAM market.
ePlane holds the Synergistic List patent in 8 countries and is the first private Indian company to receive Design Organisation Approval (DoA) from India’s DGCA for an electric aircraft. e200X’s type certification is already under progress since December 2024.
Founded by Prof. Satya Chakravarthy in 2019, the team boasts 140+ experts, including 6 PhDs and 38+ Masters from top institutions. Initially human piloted, the air taxi can transition to autonomous as regulations allow.
The Genesis
From the halls of IIT Madras, a core team of five engineers, guided by Prof. Satya Chakravarthy, begins sketching the future: an electric aircraft designed specifically for the unique demands of Indian cities. The seed of an idea is planted.
First Lift
Seed funding validates the vision. We take our concept to the skies for the first time with successful flight tests of the ATVA, our first hybrid eVTOL platform, proving the fundamental principles of our design.
Scaling the Dream
The e50, our larger, ⅓ scale prototype, successfully completes its initial flight test phase, demonstrating critical transition maneuvers and validating our unique aerodynamic approach at scale.
A Regulatory Landmark
In a defining moment for Indian aviation, The ePlane Company became the first private entity in the nation to secure Design Organisation Approval (DOA) from the DGCA for an electric aircraft, establishing our credibility and expertise.
Powering Forward
Series B funding of $14 million injection accelerates our development. We achieved another critical milestone with the successful acceptance of the certification programme of our in-house designed propeller system, a core piece of our technology stack.
The Path to Flight
The journey towards commercial reality takes a significant step as the DGCA formally accepts our Type Certification (TC) application for the e200x, initiating the rigorous process to bring our aircraft to market. Synergist Lift Patent filed in 25 jurisdictions: granted in 10 & published in 5.
Design Freeze
Early 2025, we unveiled the airframe design of the e200x at AeroIndia. Belief in our vision solidifies into tangible market interest.
Market Confidence Takes Shape
On the Brink of History
Years of relentless design, simulation, and building converge. Our first full-scale prototype, the e200x, stands ready. The culmination of our journey so far is about to take flight.
